When actor Gregg Sulkin and his longtime girlfriend, actress Michelle Randolph, decided to make it official by moving in together, one of the first things they did to turn "his place" into "their place" was a complete closet remodel for Michelle. Take a look at the beautiful walk-in closet and dressing room that Gregg organized for her. Designed and manufactured by Closet Works, it rivals the most luxurious of celebrity closets.

The Way to a Woman's Heart is Through Her Closet

An organized home is a happy home. At least that’s how Gregg and Michelle felt when they decided to turn this former bedroom/office into a private dressing room retreat for Michelle. The spare bedroom was located next to the master suite. Gregg has previously done extensive remodeling to his home and the space was already prepped and ready to accept the new closet. The couple knew what they wanted. They had an inspirational photo saved from Pinterest that represented the upscale minimalist look they love. The challenge was to find a custom closet company equal to the task of making their ideas into a reality.

The couple had a few requirements. Gregg Sulkin and Michelle Randolph were determined to accept only high-quality materials and finishes for this job. They wanted to work with an experienced company and a closet designer who would listen to their ideas. For example, shelves for shoes were very important. And the designer should be able to add her own suggestions and expertise to the project. She needed to go beyond simple execution of a photo and be prepared for a true collaboration of ideas. They found all this with the custom closet designers from Closet Works.

The Closet Remodel Process

We asked Gregg for his thoughts about the project. He was happy to share his experience on the closet remodel process for Michelle’s walk-in closet and dressing room.

Why did you select Closet Works over the many available closet companies?

We decided early on to go with a custom closet company for this project. We also started this process in the middle of the pandemic. It was so much easier to collaborate online with a designer and have everything shipped directly to our home rather than face-to-face contact. And it was pretty easy to narrow down the possible contenders because there aren’t very many closet companies that offer the high-end finishes and quality that we were looking for. In the end, Closet Works was able to check all our boxes to get the job done.

What were some of the pre-qualifiers that drew you to Closet Works?

We wanted furniture-grade materials and luxury details like soft-close, under-mount drawers. We wanted something a little different and more upscale than the standard white or brown laminate closet. Since this was a custom job, the designer was also very important. Closet Works was great to work with because their designer understood our needs, appreciated our ideas while adding her own insights, and knew how to tie it all together to bring the concepts into reality.

Can you share some of your design choices?

Sure. We strove for a style that complements the minimalist, streamlined look that dominates the rest of our house. Closets, by nature, can easily become cluttered and cramped. Our goal for the new walk-in closet and dressing room was to achieve the opposite. We kept the storage mostly hidden inside drawers with open shelving and rods for a few, select pieces.

Are there any other insights you’d like to share with other consumers who are thinking about taking on a similar closet remodel project for their own homes?

I’ve done substantial remodeling in my home. This closet was not my first project and probably not my last. Overall, I find that closet remodels add a lot of value. They can change the way you use the space, making it more enjoyable every day. They also help attract buyers later on when you go to sell. I recommend them as a worthwhile investment for any homeowner looking to make improvements on their home.

Walk-in Closet and Dressing Room Project

The contemporary design centers around two walls of storage. We kept the new storage away from the existing mirrored closet doors so that the small, reach-in closet original to the bedroom could continue to be used for long-hang clothing storage. The focal point of the room is the new built-in dresser with overhead shelves. It features nine drawers and a long countertop with plenty of room for perfumes, makeup, and a large mirror. A wall of mixed storage opposite the closet dresser consists of a combination of hanging, shoe shelves, regular shelves, and drawers.

Gregg and Michelle tied the look together with a lamp and comfy reading chair upholstered in a coordinating fabric that works with the "Granite" color of the closet components. A cozy, off-white area rug brings a feminine softness to the space. The new closet also provides walk-through access to the bathroom, making it ultra-practical as well as beautiful.

The Gregg Sulkin Celebrity Closet Experience

Gregg Sulkin and Michelle love their new closet. They didn’t set out to make the new space into a so-called “celebrity closet,” but they achieved that high level of luxury nonetheless without sacrificing any function or practicality. Overall, they found the Closet Works process easy and painless. The whole company was great to work with. Their designer was skilled, experienced, and fully capable of smoothly guiding the project from concept to completion.
